Rising tenor Robert Stahley, described as “a prodigiously talented performer” (ReviewSTL), continues to thrill audiences with “his impassioned, soaring tenor” (Broadway World) and bring roles vividly to life on stage where “he tirelessly exudes gravitas and individuality” (Parterre). In the 2026-27 season, Stahley will appear with Seattle Opera as First Jew in Salome, with the Metropolitan Opera as First Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte. He will also debut the role of Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at Opera Omaha. 

Highlights of Stahley 2025-26 season included his reprisal of the role of Erik in Der fliegende Holländer with the Buffalo Philharmonic, his debut in the role of Don José in Carmen with Dayton Opera, Verdi’s Requiem with the Oakland Symphony, Sam in Susannah with Opera Omaha, and Cavaradossi in Tosca with the Jacksonville Symphony. He also joined the Glyndebourne Festival for the first time to cover the same role. In the 2024-25 season, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut as the First Armored Man in Julie Taymor’s celebrated production of Die Zauberflöte and covered roles in Aida, Salome, and Die Frau ohne Schatten. He reprised the role of Canio in Pagliacci with Opera Santa Barbara following his critically acclaimed portrayal at The Glimmerglass Festival and covered Siegmund in Die Walküre at Santa Fe Opera. 

Further recent performances include Siegmund in Journey to Valhalla with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West with North Carolina Opera, and the tenor soloist in Symphony No. 9 with the Colorado Symphony under Marin Alsop, Erik in Der fliegende Holländer with Utah Opera and as a cover at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Melot and A Young Sailor in Tristan und Isolde with the LA Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel, Froh in Das Rheingold with The Dallas Opera, Siegmund in the Vick/Dove arrangement of Die Walküre with Opera Santa Barbara, Cavaradossi in Tosca with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Max in Der Freischütz and Sam in Susannah with Wolf Trap Opera, Juno in Semele with Opera Santa Barbara, Narraboth in Salome with Bard Opera Theater, the Captain in the world premiere of John Corigliano’s The Lord of Cries, a concert appearance with Grammy Award-winning soprano Angel Blue, the title role in Les contes d’Hoffmann with Arbor Opera Theater, and performances as the tenor soloist in Messa da Requiem with the Quad City Symphony, Symphony No. 9 with the Lynn Philharmonia and Dayton Philharmonic, William Marshall in Regina with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos with the St. Louis Symphony, and Pang in Turandot with the Kentucky Symphony.

A graduate of the LA Opera Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program, Mr. Stahley performed several prominent roles with the company including Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser, Le Berger in Oedipus Rex, Valcour in L’Amant Anonyme, the First Armored Man in Barrie Kosky’s production of Die Zauberflöte, and Parpignol in the North American premiere of Kosky’s La bohème.

Mr. Stahley was awarded second place in the 2024 Pasadena Vocal Competition, first prize in the 2019 Wagner Society of New York Competition, third prize in the 2018 Gerda Lissner Vocal Competition, and first prize in the 2017 Piccolo Vocal Competition. He holds both a Master’s degree and Artist Diploma from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
