Blake Denson, hailed as a “roaring baritone” (Klassik begeistert) with “a striking upper register” and “a sound that booms to the back of the house” (OperaWire), is rapidly establishing himself on major international stages. Following Denson’s debut at Bard SummerScape as Altair in Richard Strauss’s rarely staged The Egyptian Helen — Christian Räth’s new production conducted by Leon Botstein with the American Symphony Orchestra at the Fisher Center’s Sosnoff Theater — the 2026/27 season sees Denson make a major role debut in the title role of Verdi’s Rigoletto with Opera North, in a new production directed by Femi Elufowoju Jr and conducted by Patrick Lange, touring Leeds Grand Theatre, Newcastle Theatre Royal, The Lowry in Salford, and Theatre Royal Nottingham. Denson also returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Montano in Bartlett Sher’s production of Verdi’s Otello, and sings Angelotti in David McVicar’s staging of Puccini’s Tosca.

In 2025–26, Denson returned to Houston Grand Opera as Crown in Porgy and Bess, debuted with the Minnesota Orchestra in the Brahms’ Requiem, reprised the role of Ford in Falstaff with Pittsburgh Opera, and returned to the Opéra National de Paris as Tomaso in Un ballo in maschera.

In the 2024–25 season, he portrayed Monterone in Rigoletto with the Opéra National de Paris, The Metropolitan Opera, and Los Angeles Opera. He also performed in Weill’sThe Seven Deadly Sins with the New World Symphony, following his debut of the work with Wolf Trap Opera.

Recent performances include Fire Shut Up in My Bones and Madama Butterfly at The Metropolitan Opera, Ford in Falstaff with Houston Grand Opera, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the National Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared with The Santa Fe Opera and in concert with Lisette Oropesa at New Orleans Opera.

A graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, Denson sang roles in Carmen, Roméo et Juliette, Dialogues des Carmélites, Hänsel und Gretel, and the world premiere of The Snowy Day.

He is a winner of the Richard Tucker Foundation’s Sarah Tucker Grant, the George London Competition, and the Tenor Viñas Competition, and was a Grand Finalist in the 2020 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. He holds degrees from Rice University and the University of Kentucky.
